How to Get Rid of Unwanted Hair?
Having a crown full of hair is everybody’s desire. But having them at an undesired area and getting rid of them is quite a nightmare. Unwanted hair removal for both hygiene and beautification purposes is something men and women routinely undergo.
There are numerous ways to remove the unwanted hair from various parts of the body. People try everything from home remedies to waxing, threading, tweezing, plucking etc. Even though these procedures provide satisfactory results, they are a temporary solution. For people who really want to obtain permanent results, laser hair removal is the best option worth considering.
Most common areas of permanent hair removal are the face, legs, pubic area and armpits.
Benefits of laser hair removal:
- Precision- Lasers are most effective in targeting the dark, coarse hair, leaving the surrounding skin undamaged.
- Speed- Each laser pulse takes the least possible time to treat a large area of the skin. So a large area can be treated all at the same time. Areas like upper lip take even less than a minute and large areas such as back, legs can be treated within an hour.
Preparation before undergoing the procedure:
For anyone undergoing a laser hair removal procedure, it is very important for the patients to avoid plucking or waxing three to four weeks before the treatment. This is because the laser targets the active roots of the hair which if removed cannot be targeted.
In case of tanning due to excessive sun exposure, it is preferable to wait till the tanning has reduced before undergoing the treatment.
Laser Hair removal procedure?
The hair to be treated is first trimmed/shaved. The type of laser used and laser parameters are adjusted according to the colour, thickness and location of the hair that is being treated. The eyes are protected with a metallic shield from the harmful laser effect.
The laser passes a beam of light through the skin which is absorbed by the melanin in the hair thereby raising the temperature of the hair follicle (the area which causes hair growth) surrounding the hair root. This destroys the hair follicle instantly which is then incapable of growing hair again.
After the completion of the procedure, ice packs are used on the treated area to soothe the area and reduce any discomfort.
As hair growth is asynchronous and not all hair follicles are active at the time of the treatment, a number of sessions between intervals may be required depending upon the area treated, the skin colour, hair coarseness and sex of the client.
Recovery after undergoing laser treatment:
Post-treatment it is advisable to avoid scrubbing/rubbing the treated area vigorously for a day or two. Patients can wear makeup on the next day of undergoing the procedure.Within a few days, the treated hair will mostly fall out. It is advisable to wear sunscreen regularly while undergoing the treatment to avoid tanning and for better results.
