Cosmetic procedures to enhance one’s looks has been a rage for quite some time. So, why should genital grooming for women be left behind? There are a number of procedures — some new and some not-so-new — to enhance the vagina, and the city is witnessing an increasing demand for them. Senior aesthetic and laser surgeon Dr Lakshyajit Dhami shares the following procedures:
LABIAPLASTY
What’s it about: When the Labia Minora becomes enlarged, the excess tissue is surgically removed to reshape it. The procedure can be done under general or local anaesthesia.
Duration: A day-care procedure, the sutures are removed within a week. The patient can resume regular activities within two to four days.
Cost: Total cost would be in the range of Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000, all inclusive.
HYMENOPLASTY
What’s it about: It restores a woman’s virginity. The flimsy mucosal tissues of the vagina are repaired with dissolvable fine sutures to mimic its virginal status.
Duration: It takes less than an hour and can be done under local or general anaesthesia. It’s a day-care procedure.
Cost: Total cost would be in the range of Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000, all inclusive.
FAT TRANSPLANTATION FOR PREMATURE AGEING OF THE VULVA
What’s it about: Fat is harvested from the inside of the thigh, using a very fine cannula, under local anaesthesia. This fat is purified and enriched with stem cells and injected under the skin in the vulva region.
Duration: The procedure is completed in one session. However, if the patient desires further improvement, it may be repeated after six months to a year. It’s a day-care procedure.
Cost: Total cost would be in the range of Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000 all inclusive. NOTE: Fat transplantation, Labiaplasty and hymenoplasty can be clubbed together for total vaginal rejuvenation (revirgination).
VAGINOPLASTY
What’s it about: The vagina becomes lax, primarily due to lack of pelvic muscle exercises (Kegels), following a normal delivery. This surgery tightens the lax muscles. Excessive inner mucosal lining is removed and the muscles are repaired in multiple layers. The mucosa is then repaired with dissolvable sutures. The patient is advised to avoid heavy exertion for three weeks.
Duration: This procedure takes one and a half hours and done under general anaesthesia.
Cost: Total cost would amount to Rs 50,000.
CLITORIDOTOMY
What’s it about: It’s done to reduce the size of the clitoral hood. The procedure is performed for cosmetic reasons and/or for increasing sexual pleasure (clitoral orgasm).
Duration: This is a one-time daycare surgery procedure, which can be done using general or local anesthesia.
Cost: Approximately Rs 30,000.
G-SPOT AUGMENTATION
What’s it about: This involves the use of dermal fillers to make the G-Spot more pronounced. It results in enhanced sexual responses and orgasms.
Duration: Its a daycare procedure, which can be done using local anesthesia or no anesthesia. The procedure can be repeated after about 6 to 12 months.
Cost: The approximate cost of each session is Rs 30,000.
G-PEEL
What’s it about: Many women complain of darker, coarse skin in their genital area. Similar to facial peels, this procedure involves the removal of the dead skin on the vulva and inner thighs. G-Peel helps match the texture and tone of the skin there to those of other body areas.
Duration: No anesthesia required for this one. At least six sessions are recommended for optimal results.
Cost: Each session approximately costs Rs 2000.
LASER VAGINAL REJUVENATION
What’s it about: This involves using laser for vaginal tightening. It enhances the vaginal muscles, improving muscle tone, strength and control.
Duration: A typical LVR package includes four-five sessions, each one lasting for about 10-15 minutes. The patient can comfortably walk out of the clinic after the session. It’s a lunch-time procedure. (We are talking about only lasers, no surgery for vagina rejuvenation not when lasers are used to make the surgical cut for a vaginal tightening)
Cost: Rs 15,000 to 20,000 per setting.
